Shock Wave Therapy

Shock Wave Therapy (SWT)

What is Shock Wave Therapy?

Shock Wave Therapy (SWT) is a non-invasive treatment that uses sound waves to deliver focused pressure pulses to a specific area of the body. The technology is a combination of electrical and mechanical waves that target the muscles and nerves of the body. The therapy is administered by a device that delivers high-frequency, low-amperage electrical pulses to the body.

Several scientific studies have shown that the use of shock waves can stimulate the production of collagen and other proteins in the affected tissue. The presence of these proteins aids in the healing process.

Shock Wave Therapy Can Help in Pain relief
Shock Wave Therapy Can Help in Sports injuries
As we age, our bodies start to lose collagen, elastin, and other connective tissues. This leads to a loss of elasticity, which can cause a variety of health problems. According to studies, patients who received shockwave therapy experienced significant healing. Shockwave therapy may be able to treat numerous conditions, which include the following:
R

Pain relief

Shock wave therapy can be used to reduce pain, including chronic pain. It works by applying pressure to the area, which stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.

R

Muscle soreness

When your muscles are in pain, they can become stiff and sore. Using shock wave therapy can help relieve this soreness.
R

Tendonitis

Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon. Shock wave therapy can be used to treat this condition, including tennis elbow.
R

Doctor Richter and his team are always very professional and courteous. I appreciate the friendly environment and quick service and treatment. I had an x ray assessment when I first went in, which followed with a thorough consultation, and they provided me cervical roller and sent me exercise I can do to go with my treatment package, as well as electro shock therapies. I'm only about half way through and my back and neck pain has relieved a lot!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any side effects or associated risks?
During more than twenty years of use by healthcare providers all over the world, very few side effects have ever been reported. Occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days, as the healing response is more active after treatment.
How long does each treatment take?
The typical course of treatment is five minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. How often should a patient be treated? Acute conditions may be treated daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain. More chronic problems respond better when treatments are received 2 to 3 times a week tapering to once a week or once every other week, with improvement.
How many treatments does it take?
This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions 1-6 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require 10 to 15 (or more) treatments. Conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control pain.
How long before the results are felt?
You may feel improvement in your condition (usually pain reduction) after the very first treatment. Sometimes you will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean that nothing is happening. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3 or 4 sessions.
Does it hurt?
What does a treatment feel like? There is little or no sensation during treatment - occasionally one feels mild, soothing warmth, or tingling.
